Dr Mustafa Alttahir
Biography & Qualifications:
- I arrived in Australia at 14 years of age as a refugee from Iraq, and attended Fairfield High School for 3 years, before completing my MBBS at UNSW from 2003-2008.
- I subsequently worked in the Liverpool and St George networks as an unaccredited registrar, before completing my Australian Orthopaedic Association training in multiple training centres in NSW, and passing my fellowship exam in 2018.
- I completed 3 Foot and Ankle Fellowships:
- Prince of Wales Fellowship with Dr David Lunz, Dr John Negrine, Dr Jeff Ling
- Macquarie University and Campbelltown Private Fellowship with Dr Tim O’Carrigan
- International Bone Research Association Fellowship in Basel, Switzerland with Professor Victor Valderrabano, and in Tenerife, Spain with Professor Mario Herrera-Perez
- I completed a Lower Limb Reconstruction Fellowship:
- Macquarie University Hospital with Professor Munjed Al Muderis, Professor Kevin Tetsworth, and Dr Tim O’Carrigan in Deformity Correction, Ilizarov Framing, Limb Lengthening, Lower Limb Arthroplasty, Osseointegration
Areas of interest:
Foot and Ankle Surgery, particularly:
- Total Ankle Replacement: For both simple and complex deformities
- Foot Reconstructive surgery: Complex bony and soft tissue deformity correction, with a strong preference for joint preserving surgery wherever possible
- Minimally Invasive Bunion / Forefoot Surgery, using burrs
Lower Limb Deformity Correction
- Acute and Gradual corrections, particularly acute distal femoral, high tibial, supramalleolar osteotomies, as well as Ilizarov frame-assisted corrections
- Limb Lengthening surgery, using an intramedullary magnetic nail technique
Lower Limb Arthroplasty
- Total Ankle Arthroplasty
- Total Knee Arthroplasty
- Total Hip Arthroplasty
